Special Olympics

On Monday, January 27, members of Seltzer Group Partners visited the Schuylkill IU to present a donation to the Schuylkill County Special Olympics. For the past 21 years, Seltzer Group Partners has hosted an annual benefit Golf Outing to proceed our local chapter of the Special Olympics.

Special Olympics started with a vision. Eunice Kennedy Shriver felt that despite intellectual disabilities, individuals were highly capable of participating in sports and physical activities. In 1962, she started a day camp in her back yard, which turned in to an International Game in 1968. Present day, this organization is active in more than 170 countries in the world.

The Special Olympics does more than provides an opportunity to play a sport – they create a world of inclusion and mutual respect, without any bias or prejudice. They provide the athletes with an opportunity to gain self-confidence, and self-esteem, build friendships, enjoy being part of the Special Olympics social network, and receive health screenings free of charge. As an outcome of being a part of this great group, the athletes are more physically active (even outside of the Special Olympics activities), are more likely to hold jobs, go to school and become active members in their communities, and more likely to socialize with non-disabled peers.

The Schuylkill County Special Olympics offers fall, winter, spring and summer sports, which include:

  • Bocce
  • Flag Football
  • Volleyball
  • Bowling
  • Floor Hockey
  • Swimming
  • Basketball
  • Softball

Our agency cherishes the relationship that we have with the Special Olympics and their cause, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work so closely with them. Thanks to Donegal Insurance Group and their corporate dinner sponsorship, the support of our clients, partners and all attendees. The proceeds from the 2019 event allowed for a $4,000 donation this year, and over $100,000 over the past 21 years. This program is very near and dear to our hearts, and we look forward to continuing our supportive efforts for many years to come.
